Veneers and Bonding

Veneers are thin shells made of porcelain or ceramic that are placed on the front surface of a tooth. Veneers are most often used to improve the shape or color of the teeth, especially in the areas that are visible when talking or smiling. Veneers typically take two appointments to complete. At the first appointment, the teeth are first prepared (shaped), then an impression is taken and sent to a dental laboratory where the veneers are custom made. When the veneers are ready, they will be permanently cemented at the second appointment.
Bonding is a procedure that produces a result similar to veneers. Composite resin is directly bonded to the front surfaces of the teeth without the need for a second appointment. Bonding is commonly used to improve the look of teeth that appear small or to close gaps between teeth.
