Dental Exam & Cleaning

Routine dental checkups should be performed twice a year in order to properly maintain oral health. It is important to continue having regular checkups even if you don’t have cavities or your teeth “feel fine”. It is always a good idea to confirm either a clean bill of health, or problems that have not been previously detected. Many problems, including cavities and periodontal (gum) disease, may not cause pain right away, but still need to be addressed.

Full Examination, Digital X-Rays, and Oral Cancer Screening

Regular checkups include a full examination of the teeth and gums to check for any issues that may be present. Digital X-Rays are also taken to aid in the diagnosis of any decay (cavities), gum disease, infections or other problems. An oral cancer screening is also performed during every exam, which includes checking the skin of the face and neck, as well as the tongue, throat and soft tissues of the mouth.

Professional Cleaning

Lastly, a thorough professional cleaning is performed, based on the periodontal (gum) health of the patient. Special instruments are used to remove plaque and tartar deposit that has built up and can no longer be removed by brushing and flossing.
